It's a rummy-style card game. On your turn you build runs of three or more consecutive cards in the same suit, score them, and try to empty your hand. Each round has its own wild cards. The first player to reach 5,000 points across rounds wins. The app includes a full interactive tutorial and an in-app "How to Play" section — tap Rules on the main menu anytime.
What game modes are there?
Single player — pass-and-play on one device, or play against 1–3 computer opponents. Set every player to Computer to watch a full AI match.
Local (Wi-Fi & Bluetooth) — play device-to-device with friends nearby, no internet required.
Online (Game Center) — turn-based matches at your own pace; you're notified when it's your turn.
I'm not getting "your turn" notifications for online games
Online play uses Apple's Game Center, which delivers turn alerts as push notifications. Make sure: (1) you're signed in to Game Center (iOS Settings → Game Center); (2) notifications are enabled for The Gallows Way (iOS Settings → Notifications → The Gallows Way); and (3) you have a network connection. Turn notifications only arrive once it becomes your turn — that's how Game Center works.
A nearby (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth) game won't connect
Both devices should be within about 30 feet with Bluetooth turned on. For Wi-Fi play, make sure The Gallows Way is allowed under iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network. If a connection stalls, tap Retry — the app automatically falls back from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth. If it still fails, fully close and reopen the app on both devices.
How do leaderboards work?
Global leaderboards are powered by Game Center and track your career total points and total wins, updated at the end of each online game. View them from Settings → View Leaderboards (you must be signed in to Game Center).
What accessibility options are available?
In Settings you can adjust card size and text size, turn on high-contrast borders, and enable a compact layout for smaller phones. The game also supports VoiceOver throughout.
How do I report a bug?
The fastest way is the in-game Report a Bug button, which attaches a diagnostic report. You can also email us directly at bugs@auston.org — please describe what happened and what device/iOS version you're on.
Refunds and purchases
The Gallows Way is a one-time paid app with no in-app purchases. All purchases and refunds are handled by Apple — visit reportaproblem.apple.com or contact Apple Support for billing questions.
